Tic Tac Toe uses a familiar game as a framework for exploring material contrast, tactility, and methods of making.
The square pieces are cast in plaster combined with fragments of black marble, creating irregular surfaces in which aggregate, texture, and variation become part of the visual character. In contrast, the circular pieces are individually formed by hand in clay, retaining subtle traces of the making process.
A granite base brings the two material languages together within a simple geometric composition.
Rather than relying on colour, the study creates distinction through material itself, contrasting geometric and organic forms, cast and hand-formed processes, composite and solid surfaces, and controlled repetition with natural variation.
The project considers how even a simple, recognizable object can become a vehicle for material discovery and sensory experience.
