INSIDE / OUTSIDE
PROJECT: Sculptural Relief
MATERIAL: Clay model, cast in epoxy resin with patina finish
Inside / Outside explores the relationship between the private inner world and the reality we construct and experience externally.
Originally modeled in clay and cast in epoxy resin, the sculptural relief investigates the tension between thoughts, unconscious impulses, perception, and the identities we form through our interactions with others. Its layered surface suggests a shifting boundary between what remains internal and what becomes visible, expressed, or interpreted by the outside world.
Influenced by ideas surrounding the conscious and unconscious psyche, the work considers the individual as existing continuously between these two realities. An internal landscape of thoughts, emotions, and instinct, and an external world shaped by perception, relationships, and social connection.
The patinated surface gives the relief a sense of age and permanence, contrasting with the fluid and continually evolving nature of human identity.
