HYBRID HORSE
PROJECT: Sculptural Material Study
MATERIAL: SLA-printed resin, plaster, ebonized red oak, concrete
Hybrid Horse explores the relationship between material, perception, and making through a composition that combines digital fabrication with hand-finished surfaces.
Using a horse-head form inspired by Nic Fiddian-Green’s Still Water as its starting point, the work shifts attention from the familiar silhouette to the materials that shape how the object is perceived. The resin form is hand-finished to create a warm, patterned surface; polished plaster suggests water; ebonized red oak introduces grain and organic variation; and concrete provides visual and physical grounding.
Together, these materials create contrasts between smooth and textured, organic and engineered, precision and imperfection, lightness and weight.
The work considers how colour, texture, finish, fabrication, and material relationships can transform a recognizable form into a new sensory experience of.
Created in collaboration with 3D Vector for SLA fabrication.
