The Waste Mixed Material project for CTI Living was driven by a commitment to environmental protection, aiming to develop an innovative, sustainable material that reduces reliance on traditional resources. The objective was to create a versatile, eco-conscious material using waste, fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainable production and consumption practices, while delivering a sensory-rich CMF experience that aligns with modern design trends.

The main driver of this movement is environmental protection, emphasizing innovative, sustainable materials.
The ongoing effort to utilize waste materials as viable alternatives to traditional resources fosters environmental awareness and promotes a sustainable approach to production and consumption.
Collaborating with manufacturers and engineers, a mix of recycled plastic and natural waste chips has been developed through injection molding.
This material, comprising 90 percent recycled polypropylene and 10 percent mixed fiber chips (rice husks, wood, and fiber grain), adds dimensionality to surfaces, reduces harmful chemicals, facilitates safer disposal or reuse, and offers three earthy, organic colors while maintaining a low carbon footprint, recyclable nature, and reduced plastic usage.

Outcome:

The Waste Mixed Material project delivered a sustainable, trend-aligned solution for CTI Living, embodying the principles of environmental responsibility and sensory design. Comprising 90% recycled polypropylene and 10% natural waste chips, the material reduces environmental impact while offering a tactile, organic finish in warm taupe, soft sage, and muted beige—colours that resonate with nature-inspired palettes. Its soft, matte surface, enriched with the natural texture of rice husks, wood, and fiber grain, invites interaction, fostering a deeper connection to sustainable design. Fully recyclable and designed for safer disposal or reuse, the material sets a benchmark for eco-conscious production, making it an ideal fit for applications like homeware, furniture, or accessories.
