The injection-molded decorative planters project for CTI Living aimed to develop a modern, lightweight lineup of indoor planters that would stand out on retail displays, specifically targeting the millennial market. The objective was to conduct trend research and generate customer insights to create a range of patterns and customized colour palettes, ensuring the planters reflected current design trends, resonated with millennial preferences, and effectively communicated the brand’s message of vibrant, sustainable living.
Process
As the CMF Designer, I led the project by conducting in-depth trend research and gathering customer insights to inform the design of the indoor planters. I identified key millennial preferences for vibrant, balanced aesthetics, focusing on a palette of trending colours like coral blush, sage green, and muted mustard. Collaborating with the industrial design and marketing teams, we developed an innovative lineup of injection-molded decorative planters, incorporating patterns with organic, geometric motifs to add visual interest. The material, a lightweight blend of 80% recycled polypropylene and 20% natural additives, aligned with sustainability goals, reducing plastic usage while maintaining durability. The finish featured a soft, tactile matte surface, enhancing sensory engagement with a subtle texture that invited touch. The vibrant yet balanced colour palette and modern patterns were designed to pop on retail displays, ensuring the planters captured the millennial market’s attention.
Outcome
The project delivered an energized, trend-driven lineup that successfully captured the millennial market, resulting in a notable big box retail market entry and increased market share for the company. The planters, featured a vibrant palette paired with organic, geometric patterns that reflected current design trends. The tactile finishes added a sensory depth, inviting interaction while aligning with the brand’s message of vibrant, sustainable living. The lineup stood out on retail displays, resonating with millennial consumers and demonstrating my ability to create designs that align with customer preferences and market trends.
