The Challenge
Design a sustainable coffee table for the circular economy that reduces plastic waste while offering lasting beauty, durability, and emotional warmth.
Goal
CONTRASTABLE table aims to be made from eco-friendly materials, such as wood and other sustainable sources, like discarded marble and natural materials like jesmonite with a focus on recyclability and low-impact manufacturing processes, promoting durability, reparability, and potential for reuse. Additionally, the proposal may consider universal accessibility, cultural enrichment, and the application of design to enhance the well-being of the surrounding environments.
The Solution
ContrasTABLE combines natural wood, reclaimed marble, and jesmonite in a design that celebrates material contrast and tactile richness. The project prioritizes low-impact processes, reparability, and end-of-life recyclability without compromising on aesthetic or functional quality.
CMF Highlights
Thoughtful contrast between warm wood grains, cool stone, and soft jesmonite finishes
Focus on tactile appeal — surfaces that invite touch and age gracefully
Exploration of sustainable finishes that enhance visual depth and sensory comfort
Ideation
In the ideation phase, we focused on CMF design with sustainable, natural, and waste materials. Explored finishes for harmony, and tactile appeal, and prioritized circularity for durability and well-being, creating an eco-friendly and captivating table. The materials testing phase and exploration of shapes and functionality were carried out through various sketches and prototypes to refine the design further.
